Audra McDonald is unparalleled in her range and the versatility of her talent as an actress and a performer. She has been a six-time record winner at the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards in addition to one Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. With a stunning soprano and an incomparable gift of telling the truth in a dramatic manner She is equally as at ease in Broadway as well as on the on stage as she is in TV and film roles. As well as her stage work, she is also a prominent performer as a concert and recording artist who performs regularly at world's foremost venues. Born into a musical family McDonald lived within Fresno California and received her classical training in New York's Juilliard School. The year 1994 was the year after her Juilliard School, McDonald won the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress Musical" for her performance in Carousel. After four more years of acting in Broadway's most acclaimed productions, Master Class by Terrence M. McNally (1996) in addition to Ragtime (1998) in 1998, she won two additional Tony Awards. In 2004, she took home her fourth Tony for her role as Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she received her fifth--and her first for the category of leading actress for her performance as the title character for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The sixth Tony Award in 2014 the role of Billie Holiday of the role Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill became Broadway's most decorated production. In 2017, she performed in the West End London West End debut, and was also nominated for an Olivier Award. As the first actress to be given awards in four distinct acting categories, McDonald broke the record for the total number of awards that an actor has been awarded. Her theater credits includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009), which was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical sensation in 1921 and All That Followed (2017) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. The Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years which was the first to introduce McDonald to the television audience for her performance as a dramatic actor. The year 1999 saw her starred along with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. In addition, she played regularly recurring roles on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. McDonald, who received an Emmy Award nomination in 1999 for her performance on the HBO version of Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit directed and starring Emma Thompson, returned with the company in 2003 for the political drama Mister Sterling. The film was created by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB in early 2006 and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald was awarded a 4th Emmy nomination in recognition of her part in the HBO film special Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in 2016. The Bite will be a 6-episode drama focusing on a deadly epidemic co-produced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald appeared as U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first was seen on the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. It was her turn to reprise the role in the year 2018, playing an episode the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. She appears as a special character on HBO's The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
